"The Sense of an Ending" by Julian Barnes

Respected Sir,

What is the meaning of phrase ‘Blood Money’ in Veronica’s reply email?

We read novel that when Veronica replayed “Blood Money” means from someone’s spilled blood the money is given Antony.  Tony has helped them to Mrs. Sarah Ford. At End of her life, she gave that money to Tony because of that she was happy in relationship with Adrian. One day Tony Suggested to Adrian that Met to Mrs. Sarah Ford. Later one Mrs. Sarah ford Die at that time she was happy them. But in later on Adrian committed suicide. So may be Veronica not happy of them. That’s why she tells that this money was not pure and that is why she just replayed “Blood Money”.

How do you decipher the equation: b = s – v x/+ a1 or a2 + v + a1 X s = b?

1) b= s-v x/+ a1
    It means B= baby and s= Sarah, v =Veronica, a1 =Adrian. And thus baby born.  B=Baby, S= Sarah, V=Veronica, a1= Adrian.
A2+ V+ a1 X S =B

A2= Antony Webster, V=Veronica, A1= Adrian, S= Sarah Ford, B=Baby, a1X s= a1’s relationship with S. So it indicates that the result of baby is the relationship between Adrian with Sarah .

Adrian’s diary is willed to Tony by Sarah Ford. How come Sarah Ford owned it? Why was it in the possession of Veronica?

After receiving the diary and getting information about Adrianne’s diary Tony recalls his past he tries to remember his school days college days and their breakup. The narrator chose peaceful life , he is married and has a daughter and son-in-law,  here we wil fid complex relationship of Sara , Jr.Adrian, Sr. Adrian and Veronica.

Was the mentally retarded middle aged ‘Adrian’, Tony’s friend who did not commit suicide and was suffering from trauma and thus gone mad, and was living with hidden identity?

The novel deals with two suicides, first is Robson’s suicide and second Sr. Adrian’s suicide. Man who is an intellectual person thinks of suicide due to his own philosophical thinking. We find that many famous people all over the world end their life in suicide. In this novel young boy called Robson commits suicide in the school after few years kill Adrian himself. May be Adriann’s past killed him but this mystery was not solved by any person into the book.

How was Veronica related to Adrian, the one suffering in care-in-the-community?

Because of the relationship of Varonica and Adrian suffering in care community because Adrian is the son of Sarah and Adrian and in this way Adrian is the brother of Varonica and so she has relation with him. And that’s why she has to take care of him and with that reason suffering in care- in –the community.

Do you see any missing block – some dot which is not getting connected with the whole or dot missing to get full sense of the novel - in the plot of this psychological thriller?

The whole novel is related to the psychological thriller because here the whole novel depends on the memory of and because here memory plays vital role into the all characters of the novel. Here  also the way of understanding which is not connected with the understanding of the character Tony and that way Tony did not able to understand the message by Varonica. So we can say that the novel is related with the psychological thriller.

What do you mean by Unreliable Narrator? Is Tony Webster classifiable as Unreliable Narrator?

Unreliable narrator is one whose narration cannot be taken as reliable or whose narration is not faithful to reality. For instance that Mysterious lady of “One night @ Call center also will find the same narrative people than take other character like Old Fellow who made call. Life of pie also related with the same narrative where memory plays vital role is call unreliable narrative which we will find into this novel also the novel 'The sense of ending' also.
